Works have been completed at the Charleston Academy campus to improve the indoor sports facilities and to create a new accessible reception area in the main school building.

Councillor Ben Thompson, Chair of the Council’s Housing and Property Committee, said: “I would like to thank Morrison Construction and our officers who have been involved in the delivery of this project.

“It is great the first phase of works are now complete at Charleston Academy. The refurbishments and upgrades made to the building will be of great benefit to the school community and demonstrates our commitment to continue to invest in and improve our school estate. I look forward to seeing the next phase of work begin on the campus.”

The works in the Community Complex building included the refurbishment and upgrade of the changing facilities, a new ground floor accessible toilet and shower, new sports hardwood flooring in the games hall with court markings, refurbishment of the gym store and fire safety improvements.

The total investment was £400,000 funded from the Council’s Capital programme and is the first phase of the planned extension and refurbishment of the Academy campus. There was also a contribution from the Community Complex Management Committee and the Ward 13 discretionary budget for the redecoration of the corridor areas.

The work was completed within 10 weeks by Morrison Construction and was designed, supervised and managed by the Council’s Housing and Property Service.

Councillor John Finlayson, Chair of Education Committee, said: “It is great to see the completion of this work and another upgrade to one of our secondary schools which I am sure will be welcomed by the whole school community and which will support both curriculum delivery and a positive learning environment.”
