Successful Tenders Announced

The Highland Council has awarded contracts for the supply of foodstuffs and provisions to all its establishments including schools, care homes and offices.

Tenders were put out in 7 packages incorporating the new Highland Council wards.

They were awarded as follows:

• Brakes for dry goods, frozen goods including bakery and fish, dairy (except for milk)

• Williamson Group Ltd for fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, chilled goods, soft drinks and water. They endeavour to use local produce when available and in season.

• Coca Cola Enterprises  for soft drinks and water

• John M Munro Ltd for fresh meat and poultry.  They will continue to supply fresh local meats.

Various nominated supplies are still being evaluated, including a number from local producers.  Nominated supplies are manufacturers or producers who have put in a tender for specific foods or groups of foods.  Their items have to be distributed to the Council establishments by the appropriate distributor at an on cost.

All the main distribution is Highland based within the Inverness and Dingwall area.

The Highland Council’s Catering and Cleaning Manager, Norma Murray said:  “We were disappointed that we received no direst bids for the supply of fresh bakery and fresh fish and only very limited interest in fresh milk deliveries within the Highlands.”

The new contracts will begin from Wednesday 1 August.
