Legionnaires' Disease Outbreak Team Meets

The Outbreak Control Team investigating four Legionnaires’ Disease cases has met for the fourth time.

Head of Environmental Health and Trading Standards for the Highland Council, Alistair Thomson, said: “Mackay’s Hotel is cooperating fully with our investigations. The company is checking the storage and distribution system for the water supply in the hotel. We have found a link between three of the cases but there is no known link to the fourth as yet. The Environmental Health Officers have carried out a surveillance operation at Strathpeffer looking for any other potential sources of Legionnaires’ Disease and can reassure local people that nothing has been found.”

The Outbreak Control Team is waiting for results from samples sent for laboratory testing.

One patient, a man from the Glasgow area, has now left the city’s Western Infirmary.

Condition reports on the other three patients are not available at present.
