Great Walks for July

The Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers have organised two guided walks for adults in July to explore the fantastic landscapes and habitats of Badenoch.

The first is a walk on Friday 20 to the Crags and Ancient Shores on Creag Bheag. Meeting at the War Memorial opposite the Duke of Gordon Hotel in Kingussie, the walk will follow paths through Hazel and Birch woods and out onto the ridge of Creag Bheag.

Countryside Ranger Duncan Macdonald said: “The views from the top of Creag Bheag are some of the finest to be had in the Strath and are so close to Kingussie.”

Walkers are asked to meet up at 11am and will return at 3pm.

Five days later, the guided walk on Wednesday 25 July is called “The Tromie Tramp”.

Meeting at the Ruthven Barracks car park on the B970 south of Kingussie, the walk will take the track over the moor to Glen Tromie and will return to the Barracks via the Glen and Insh Marshes RSPB reserve.

Suitable for well shod and prepared adults the walk takes place from 11am – 3pm

Duncan MacDonald said: “The Tromie Tramp is a personal favourite walk that never ceases to surprise.  The reward from the top is truly breathtaking.”

These guided walks are part of a programme of guided walks and events organised by Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers throughout the Highlands. Copies of the programmes can be found on the Council’s website at http://www.www.highland.gov.uk/ or by telephoning: 01540 673 907.
