Highland Council winter road condition report for Thursday 31 December

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Thursday 31 December 2020 are as follows:

Lochalsh and Ross and Cromarty West
Posted at 08:52 Snow and patches of ice affecting the majority of west routes with treatment on-going. Bealach na Ba (C1087) remains closed due to snow.

Ross and Cromarty East
Posted at 08:29 All main routes treated and back to black but lots of surface water due to melt and precipitation, slush and ice on some secondary routes and sheltered areas and others. All being treated this morning. No overnight issues to report.

Caithness
Posted at 06:55 Positive road surface temperatures and wet roads. No other issues reported.

Sutherland
Posted at 10:28 Slushy conditions this morning with icy stretches. Additional resources mobilised at 08:00 to cover routes in the west affected by ice. All affected routes being treated as necessary.

Skye and Lochalsh
Posted at 08:26 No significant problems in South Skye. Icy patches / stretches affecting all routes in north Skye and Raasay. Primary routes have been treated - secondary routes treatment underway.

Lochaber
Posted at 08:54 Low road surface temperatures with no snow, roads are wet with icy conditions due to rainfall. All primary routes complete with secondary ongoing. No other issues reported.

Nairn
Posted at 09:18 Varying degrees of snow affecting higher routes. Low routes mostly experiencing rain. Treating high routes and blading where required. No known problems.

Inverness
Posted at 07:28 Wet roads and rain on lower roads with sleet/snow on higher ground. Road surface temperatures varying throughout the network, covering routes as required.

Badenoch and Strathspey
Posted at 09:19 Varying degrees of snow affecting higher routes. Low routes mostly experiencing rain. Treating high routes and blading where required. No known problems.
