The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
Road condition reports for Thursday, 7 January 2021 are as follows:
Lochalsh and Ross and Cromarty West
Posted at 08:58 A real mixture of conditions. On the coastal routes generally the road conditions are good, but move inland and rain is falling on to frozen roads causing icy/slippery road conditions. On the higher routes snow/sleet is falling causing slippery conditions. Caution is advised when traveling. Treatment continuing.
Ross and Cromarty East
Posted at 06:34 Very icy conditions affecting all roads throughout the area. All routes being treated. Caution advised.
Caithness
Posted at 08:00 Sub-zero temperatures and ice affecting all routes, with patches of black ice in the north of the county and wide spread black ice in the south of the county due to heavy rain showers falling on frozen surfaces, treating all routes as necessary. No other issues to report.
Sutherland
Posted at 08:34 All routes being treated black ice around the county rain / sleety showers falling onto frozen surfaces a light dusting of snow on higher ground.
Skye and Lochalsh
Posted at 08:47 Minus road temperatures this morning with morning rain showers creating icy patches. Black ice issues affecting some Minginish routes. Icy road conditions around Skeabost/Borve, driver caution advised on all routes. All routes being treated by priority - snow showers forecast from early afternoon.
Lochaber
Posted at 07:21 Extremely icy conditions throughout the area treatment ongoing throughout the day, great care should be taken by all road users and pedestrian
Nairn
Posted at 08:07 Snow on high roads, frost/ice on lower roads, being treated as necessary
Inverness
Posted at 06:31 Low roads wet with icy stretches, 1 inch covering of wet snow on high roads, all roads to be gritted today, plus bladed where required
Badenoch and Strathspey
Posted at 08:07 Snow across all roads, being treated as necessary
