Highland Council winter road condition report for Monday, 11 January 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Monday, 11 January 2021 are as follows:

Ross and Cromarty East
Posted at 09:18  Positive road surface temperatures but heavy rain across the area. No issues at the moment but some localised flooding issues expected through the morning. Snow forecast for this afternoon.

Caithness
Posted at 07:41  Positive road surface temperatures with no action required at 0600hrs.  Temperatures forecast to drop later in the morning, will continue to monitor conditions and action if temperatures drop below freezing or become marginal.  No other issues to report.

Sutherland
Posted at 08:23  A839 currently closed between Lairg and Rosehall near Gruids. Articulated lorry stuck in the ditch blocking the carriageway at this location, currently awaiting recovery. Police aware.  Heavy rain and a lot of standing water throughout the area this morning. Wintry showers with some snow lying on higher routes. Currently being treated.

Skye and Lochalsh
Posted at 06:29  Mild weather overnight. Heavy rain forecast for today. No overnight issues to report.

Lochaber
Posted at 07:55  Positive road surface temperatures with heavy rain no overnight issues.

Nairn
Posted at 08:14  Positive temperatures this morning, so no treatment action required first thing; however, cold, icy, snowy conditions are forecast to return this afternoon, so treatment anticipated later this morning.

Inverness
Posted at 07:53  Wet with positive road surface temperatures, no known issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey
Posted at 08:12  Positive temperatures this morning, so no treatment action required first thing; however, cold, icy, snowy conditions are forecast to return this afternoon, so treatment anticipated from mid-morning.

Lochalsh and Ross and Cromarty West
Posted at 05:33  Heavy rain this morning turning to wintery weather on the higher routes mid morning.  No known issues last night.
