Council and Hospice welcome Professor Jason Leitch as guest speaker at Highland ECHO project session.

Highland Council in collaboration with the Highland Hospice are pleased to welcome Professor Jason Leitch, National Clinical Director, Healthcare Quality and Strategy as a guest speaker at Project ECHO on 20 January 2021.

Project ECHO (Extension of Community Health Outcomes) run by Highland Hospice is a digital project that has collaborated to host a series of virtual sessions to health and social care staff on wellbeing and resilience through the Covid-19 pandemic.

The nature and dynamic of these sessions allow for interactive engagement, promoting an ‘all-teach, all-learn’ ethos and includes a professional ‘hub’ of managers who provide clarity and feedback, as well as an opportunity to hear staff’s view on the issues raised.

This enables health and social care across the service to have a safe space to hear presentations from invited guests and discuss the themes they raise.  Discussions include: how services could learn and adapt during these challenging times; how to support children and young people with loss and change; impact of moral injury; and the impact of working from home. A number of speakers have attended over the months and the sessions are well attended. Professor Leitch has agreed to attend the next session on 20 January.

Chair of Highland Council’s Health, Social Care and Wellbeing Committee, Councillor Linda Munro said: “We are delighted that Professor Leitch has offered his time to present and meet the Project ECHO on 20 January.  The public resonate with Professor Leitch, his clear and concise messages have been appreciated during this time of crisis in the coronavirus pandemic.  The Highland Council and Project ECHO would like to thank Professor Leitch for taking the time to speak with our wonderful team in Highland and I encourage health and social care staff to engage and use the time to listen but also put questions forward to Professor Leitch.”
