Highland Council winter road condition report for Monday, 18 January 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Monday, 18 January 2021 are as follows:

Lochaber

Posted at 08:30. Wet and windy weather overnight, but otherwise no issues to report.

Skye and Raasay

Posted at 07:52. No reported problems on any of the routes.

Ross & Cromarty East.

Posted at 09:12. All routes being treated this morning, icy patches with odd sparkle on main routes, secondary & higher routes and sheltered areas affected with black ice. Treatment ongoing. No overnight issues reported.

Caithness

Posted at 08:24. Black ice, white frosts & sparkling roads on all of Caithness roads this morning, also sleet showers falling onto cold surfaces making driving difficult. 

Inverness

Posted at 07:44. Icy stretches on high roads, low roads wet.  All routes being gritted until surface temperatures get above zero.

Sutherland

Posted at 08:26.  All routes treated.  Road surface temperatures very low causing rain to turn to black ice on a lot of routes. Treatment ongoing.

Nairn

Posted at 08:04. Negative temperatures throughout the area. Primary and Secondary routes being treated.

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted at 08:02. Negative temperatures throughout the area with black ice on a number of routes. All routes being treated.
