Public urged to have their say on Draft Gaelic Plan for Highland

Gaelic version of press release (pdf)

Six public meetings are being staged in the Highlands next month to provide the public with the change to have their say on a draft Gaelic Language Plan, which sets out the commitment of The Highland Council to Gaelic over the next four years.

The meeting schedule is as follows:-

All meetings will start at 7.15 pm.

Copies of the draft plan will be available at key council offices, such as libraries and Service Points. A pro-forma for responses will be published on the home page of the  Council’s web site. The deadline for responses is  31 August.

The Council is required by the Gaelic Language Act 2005 to produce a Gaelic Language Plan. The deadline for presenting the document to Bord na Gaidhlig is 1 October.

The draft plan was agreed by the Council’s Gaelic Committee at a special meeting last week. It is based on the principle of equal respect for Gaelic and English, with Council Services recognising the Gaelic dimension when planning and implementing all  initiatives.
