Highland Council winter road condition report for Tuesday, 26 January 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Tuesday, 26 January 2021 are as follows:

Lochaber

Posted at 07:50.  Low road surface temperatures and wintery showers.  Treatment ongoing on primary and secondary routes.  No known overnight issues.

Skye and Raasay

Posted at 09:10.  Dry roads this morning with negative road surface temperatures. Much colder than forecast overnight (minus 5.7C).  Treatments ongoing on Primary and Secondary routes.

Ross & Cromarty East.

Posted at 09:05.  All primary and secondary routes drying out and improved conditions reported, odd sparkle and hard frost on some higher secondary routes. All being treated this morning and extending into others.  Treatment for footpaths ongoing.

Caithness

Posted at 08:21.  Widespread ice across the area, with white frost patches.  All routes and footpaths being treated in line with policy.  Harbour Road, Wick is now open again.  No known issues overnight.

Inverness

Posted at 10:08.  Dry but cold roads this morning.  Covering all routes and footpaths. No known issues.

Sutherland

Posted at 10:07.  Extreme ice conditions affecting the North coast this morning.  Ice affecting all other routes with a light dusting of snow on inland northern roads. Treatment ongoing as per route priorities.

Nairn

Posted at 07:03.  Widespread frost across the area, some localised icy patches, dusting of snow on high routes.  Roads being treated as necessary.

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted at 07:02.  Dusting of snow across whole area along with widespread frost. Some localised icy patches.  Roads being treated as necessary.

Lochalsh and Ross & Cromarty West

Posted at 08:03.  Low temps throughout the area, no snow showers, roads sparkly but all passable.  Treatment continuing.  No known overnight issues.
