Highland Council winter road condition report for Thursday, 28 January 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
Road condition reports for Thursday, 28 January 2021 are as follows:
Lochaber
Posted at 07:54. Low temperature. Wintery showers. Primary and secondary routes being treated. No issues overnight.
Skye and Raasay
Posted at 08:33. Milder than forecast across Skye and Raasay this morning. Precautionary salt treatments undertaken on primary and secondary routes in advance of afternoon snow expected for higher routes. Gritting to resume on untreated ‘other’ routes. Extensive ice coverage in Minginish despite yesterday’s heavy salt applications. Treatments across Minginish to resume this morning.
Ross & Cromarty East.
Posted at 09:35. All routes being treated this morning ahead of snow forecast. No issues reported this morning across the primary network, all good and dry. Secondary routes light grey frost. No issues overnight.
Caithness
Posted at 08:15. Mixture of dry & damp roads for all routes with ice and frost patches. Wintry showers over Thurso area. Treatment continuing.
Inverness
Posted at 05:59. Dry overhead but roads wet. Grey frost on verges and on roads where salt has worn off. Icy patches where water on road. Covering all routes and footpaths.
Sutherland
Posted at 09:32. Mostly damp roads this morning with some icy patches but road surface temperatures remain below freezing. All routes treated as necessary.
Nairn
Posted at 06:53. Widespread frosty patches, roads being treated as necessary.
Badenoch and Strathspey
Posted at 06:58. Widespread frosty patches, roads being treated as necessary.
Lochalsh and Ross & Cromarty West
Posted at 09:45. Temperature rising, routes all checked. No overnight issues.
