Highland Council winter road condition report for Monday, 1 February 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Monday, 1 February 2021 are as follows:

Lochaber

Posted at 07:16.  Road surface temperatures below zero with frost and ice patches.  All primary and secondary routes being treated salt levels being kept high due to band of snow coming in.  No know issues overnight.

Skye and Raasay

Posted at 08:47.  Dry roads but bitterly cold across Skye this morning with road temperatures of minus 7.9C.  Primary and Secondary routes being treated with treatments extending onto other routes in advance of overnight snow showers.  No problems overnight to report.

Ross & Cromarty East.

Posted at 08:27.  Negative temperatures across the domain, primary routes dry with no issues and salt levels remain high.  Secondary and other routes, specifically higher routes, still the odd icy patch and snow in centre track.  All routes being treated this morning.

Caithness

Posted at 08:22.  Covering of snow across majority of area, with some routes having up to 3 inches in places.  White frost on stretches where snow has not fallen.  Treatment is continuing in line with policy.  No know issues overnight.

Inverness

Posted at 06:29.  Icy patches at any seepage on low roads, 1 inch covering of old frozen snow between wheel tracks on high ground side roads, gritters out treating all routes.

Sutherland

Posted at 08:27.  Priority 1 routes mainly dry / damp roads. North of county (Tongue area) up to 2 inches of fresh snow.  Side roads still affected with hard packed snow in places and icy patches in seepage areas, all routes being bladed & treated as necessary.

Nairn

Posted at 08:51.  Two to four cm of fresh snow on higher roads, a light dusting in the town.  Snow showers continuing off and on.  Treating all routes by priority.  Drive with care.

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted at 08:53.  Cold morning with frost and ice.  Hard packed snow on side roads.  Treating routes by priority.  Drive with care.

Lochalsh and Ross & Cromarty West

Posted at 07:54.  Roads very cold but in the main dry, some icy patches.  No known overnight issues.
