Highland Council winter road condition report for Monday, 8 February 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Monday, 8 February 2021 are as follows:

Lochalsh and Ross & Cromarty West

Posted at 13:11.  Sub-zero road surface temperatures, however roads are in good condition and mainly dry.  The Fain and Bealachis remain closed closed.  The Fain is actively being worked on.

Lochaber

Posted at 08:22.  Dry overnight with low road surface temperatures.  All routes being treated.  No overnight issues reported.

Skye and Raasay

Posted at 08:13.  Roads dry with no reported hazards.

Caithness

Posted at 07:58.  Low road surface temperatures and odd showers of snow, damp roads on the east coast of the county are round Wick, the rest of the county has a light dusting of snow less than 1 inch and not enough to blade.  Treating all routes as necessary.  No known other issues to report.

Inverness

Posted at 07:20.  Roads mainly dry this morning with low road surface temperatures. Some other routes on high ground still need snow clearing.  Covering all routes and footpaths.

Sutherland

Posted at 09:14.  The whole of the area, with the exception of the Western coastal fringe, has lying snow 3" - 6" – drifting on higher routes.  The A894 Skiag - Newton Junction has now reopened.  However, the A836 Lairg - Tongue route & the A897 Helmsdale - Melvich route remain closed to traffic because of drifting snow.

Nairn

Posted at 07:54.  Ice throughout the area.  Primary and Secondary routes being treated as well as footpaths.  No known overnight issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted at 07:57.  Ice and frost located throughout the area.  All routes being treated as well as footways.  No known overnight issues.

Ross and Cromarty East

Posted at 06:56.  A covering of snow and low surface temperatures on all routes throughout the area.  All routes being treated.
