Council Leaders Confirm Council’s Support For Investment in Eden Court, Inverness

The new Administration of The Highland Council has stressed its wholehearted support for the major refurbishment and expansion of Eden Court, Inverness, believing the complex will provide major social, educational and economic benefits for the Highlands.

Convener Sandy Park and Vice-Convener Jean Urquhart are big supporters of the £22.7 million project, which will make Eden Court the biggest arts centre north of the border.

Councillor Park said:  “The Administration wishes to express its overwhelming support for this flagship Highland 2007 project, which will bring immense social, educational and economic benefits to the area .  While it will open late in the year that Scotland celebrates Highland culture, the benefits for the future are huge. The facilities will be the match of any theatre complex in Scotland.”

As owners of the building, the Council has welcomed  the major funding which has been attracted to the project from the Scottish Executive, Europe and and the SAC and Heritage Lottery.   The Council’s contribution, including a £1,000,000 grant from the Inverness Common Good Fund, is £4 million.

Councillor Urquhart added: “The value of Eden Court to the Highlands cannot be over-stated. I have no doubt that the refurbishment will provide the Highland people and visitors with a theatre complex to be proud of.”
