Have your say on revised management rules for burial grounds and Inverness crematorium

Members of the public have until 14 March 2021 to have their say on revised management rules for burial grounds and Inverness crematorium.

The Council has a statutory duty to manage burials, oversee memorial safety and cremations for around 1,500 burials and 1,200 cremations each year. Under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 - Section 112(5) the Council is consulting on revisions to the management rules for its 268 burial grounds across the region and crematorium located at Kilvean in Inverness.

The Council acknowledge the feedback already received requesting clarity on cemetery car parks especially given some inappropriate and disrespectful behaviour last summer by irresponsible campers and motorhome users. These comments have been noted and the final version of the rules will make clear that the cemetery car parks are provided to accommodate legitimate cemetery users.

Copies of the draft management rules are available to view at The Highland Council website at this link.

Any representations in relation to the proposed new management rules may be made by email to funeralservices@highland.gov.uk or in writing to the Bereavement Services Manager, Inverness crematorium, Kilvean Rd, Inverness IV3 8JN by 14 March 2021.
