Changes for Aviemore Household Waste Recycling Centre

The Highland Council has awarded a contract to John Gunn and Sons Ltd to carry out construction works at Granish landfill site, Aviemore. The £810,000 project involves the construction of a new Waste Transfer Station building on the site.

The Waste Transfer Station forms part of the Council’s long-term strategy for waste management and its construction will enable the closure of the landfill at Granish by Spring 2023.

Construction is due to start on 12 April 2021 and is expected to be completed in August. The works will take place within the boundary of the existing Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) at Granish. The current HWRC will close for the duration of the works, and an alternative, temporary HWRC will be created on the site of the former concrete batching plant at Granish, approximately 100m from the current site.  Signage will be erected at the current site entrance directing site users to the new facility.

The existing HWRC will close at 4pm on Friday 9 April, and the new HWRC will open at 9am on Monday 12 April. There will be no public access to either HWRC at Granish on Saturday 10 April. The Council apologises for the temporary inconvenience caused by the construction works.
