Highland Council’s ambitious Transformation programme creates job opportunities

A detailed report to the Council’s Recovery, Improvement and Transformation Board this week (29 March 2021) updated Members on the Transformation programme’s next steps as recruitment begins for project and programme staff.

The Council’s ambitious Transformation programme focuses on 9 key transformation priorities for the Council which have been identified to help deliver approved budget savings, wider efficiencies, cost mitigation and cost avoidance, and to identify medium-term financial savings from 2022/23 onwards. In total, £3.686m will be invested in these key projects over 2 years, which are forecast to generate £18.659m cashable benefits.

Lead officers are now focusing on a priority recruitment campaign, supported by the Council’s Talent Team, HR and Business Support, to rapidly resource and set up project teams.

All positions provide interesting project and programme management opportunities and are being advertised on My Job Scotland, the Council’s staff intranet, Twitter, Facebook and with other public sector partners.  Roles are varied and include administration, business analysts, project/programme management and support, HR, and other specialist advisory and research roles.

Vacancies currently exist in the Programme Management Office and across a number of the transformational projects, which include supporting the economy, social care and climate change. Recruitment of a further 19 posts will continue over the coming weeks, providing attractive employment opportunities ranging in duration from 12-24 months.

Depute Leader for the Council and Chair of the Recovery, Improvement and Transformation Board, Cllr Alasdair Christie said: “The Transformation programme is an ambitious programme which will go a long way to help us protect our future finances. It is an exciting programme to be involved in and I would encourage anyone who is interested to read about the various roles being advertised and apply online.”
