Highland Roads Recovery – car park improvements will provide a clear welcome to visitors

As lockdown eases and people are allowed to travel, The Highland Council is making improvements to some of its key car parks across the region that are heavily used by visitors.

The introduction of a white-lining combination trailer and kit has allowed Council staff to recently improve the parking bays at Kyleakin and Drumnadrochit.

Eilean a' Cheò Ward Councillor John Finlayson who lives at Kyleakin said: “I  am delighted to see that lining has been done in Kyleakin and have had many positive comments back from the public about how quickly and efficiently the work was done when the workforce appeared on site. This upgrade supports the addition of the new EV charging points recently installed, which we hope will go live over the coming weeks.”

The Council has invested an extra £20 million capital and £1.3 million revenue on road maintenance, reflecting the importance placed on improving Highland roads.

This new white lining combination kit is part of the roll out of this programme of investment.

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic and a long winter has delayed road recovery work over the past year, however investments in new plant and machinery are enabling staff to repair Highland Council infrastructure quickly and more efficiently.

With the improving weather, staff were delighted to get out on the road with the new kit to Kyleakin and Drumnadrochit car parks. The new white lining in the car parks will make it clearer for visitors and locals to see where they can park.

A new mini trailer with ramp has enabled staff to load and unload the new white lining machine with ease. The combination of new kit has improved staff capabilities to provide an improved service.

This new white lining combo will support the Council’s Parking Services Team’s efforts to assist in the delivery of the Council’s recently approved Visitor Management Plan for 2021.

The Council is actively delivering prioritised roads works programmes within its allocated resources.  It’s important to know how to report damaged Highland Council-maintained roads and pavements (including potholes).
