A new nursery building at Kyle Primary School has been completed and handed over to the school and will be fully operational after the October holidays.

Chair of the Education Committee, Councillor John Finlayson said: “I was pleased to see the completion of this important and high-quality project when I visited the school this week. I am sure children, staff, parents and the wider community are all delighted with their new 21 century, nursey space, which is bright, spacious and ready to be used after the October holidays. I would like to thank everyone involved, including the contractor and council staff for completing the project on time which enables us to further support the expansion of nursery provision and hours across our many communities.”

The project saw the replacement of a dilapidated modular unit with a new building (with a registered capacity of 20) that fully meets the requirements of the Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) expansion programme.

The former schoolhouse, that has been vacant for some time, was demolished as part of the project to allow the new building to be sited in a more suitable location.

The project was delivered by the Council’s in-house Property teams with McGregor Construction (Highland) Construction Ltd. as the Principal Contractor.

A total of 82 construction projects have been taken forward to support the delivery of the ELC programme, many of which also included other essential improvements to school buildings. Although progress was disrupted due to the impact of the pandemic, 59 have now been completed with a further 15 due to be completed by the end of December.

Where necessary, contingency, or interim arrangements were put in place to ensure that all settings were capable of delivering 1140 hours of funded ELC provision from August 2021.
