Highland Council winter road condition and school closure report for Tuesday 7 December 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Tuesday 7 December 2021 are as follows:

Ross and Cromarty East

Posted at 7.15am. There are icy roads across the area and all routes are being treated according to policy. Caution is advised on untreated surfaces.

Caithness

Posted at 8.31am. Main routes have some sparkling and icy patches and side roads have hard white frost/icy patches. All routes being treated, as low road surface temperatures forecast for morning period by priority, footpaths also being treated for icy patches and white frosts.

Sutherland

Posted at 8.29am. There are icy roads across the county this morning and all routes are being treated including footpaths.

Skye and Raasay

Posted at 8.38am. There are icy patches in North Skye. Primary routes have been treated throughout and treatment is ongoing in North Skye to allow road surface temperatures to recover.

Lochaber

Posted at 8.15am. There are icy roads throughout the area and all main routes have been treated according to policy.

Nairn

Posted at 7.48am. There are damp/dry roads with some frosty patches. Primary and secondary routes are being treated according to policy.

Inverness

Posted at 7.17am. Cold all over this morning with damp roads. All routes are being treated according to policy. No known issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted at 7.55am. There are icy roads across the area, slightly worse at the south end compared to the North. Roads are being treated as necessary.

School closures

As of 10am this morning there are no school closures as a result of bad weather conditions. 

The school closures page on the Council’s website at: www.highland.gov.uk/schoolclosures is updated from 7am and cleared each evening by 6pm.
