Highland Council winter road condition and school closure report for Friday 10 December 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Friday 10 December 2021 are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted at 7:51am. There is black ice and ice widespread across the area. Caution is advised when travelling. Roads are being treated as necessary.

Ross and Cromarty East

Posted 6:36am. Ice is affecting all roads and all routes are being treated according to policy. Caution is advised when travelling.

Caithness

Posted 9:12am. Main routes have parts sparkling on sheltered areas and side roads have a mix of damp & icy conditions. All routes are being treated by priority.

Sutherland

Posted at 8:25am. Priority routes have mainly wet/damp roads and all other routes very icy. All routes have been treated according to policy including footpaths.

Skye and Raasay

Posted at 9:11am. Road surface temperatures are oscillating around zero and wet from showers. Primary routes in North and South have been treated and treatment is ongoing until temperatures recover.

Lochaber

Posted at 8:41am. There are wintery showers with icy patches on most routes. All priority routes have been treated according to policy; however, care should be taken on untreated routes.

Nairn

Posted 7:53am. High roads have icy patches and lower roads have frosty patches. All routes are being treated as necessary.

Inverness

Posted at 7:06am. There are wet roads all over area with road surface temperatures below zero and dropping throughout the morning. Caution is advised when travelling.

School closures

As of 9am this morning there are no school closures as a result of bad weather conditions. 

The school closures page on the Council’s website at: www.highland.gov.uk/schoolclosures is updated from 7am and cleared each evening by 6pm.
