Head Teacher appointed for the new Ness Side and Ness Castle Primary School

Craig Connon has been appointed by The Highland Council as Head Teacher for the new primary and nursery school in the Ness Side and Ness Castle Inverness area.

Mr Connon has spent much of his career working in South Lanarkshire Council, as a Class Teacher, Principal Teacher and Acting Depute Head. He moved to Renfrewshire as Depute Head before returning to South Lanarkshire as Head Teacher of Mossneuk Primary School in East Kilbride in March 2015. He then took up position as Quality Link Officer and Lead Officer for Learning, Teaching and Assessment across South Lanarkshire Council, supporting schools and working with them on their Learning and Teaching journey.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: "I am really excited to be taking on the role of Head Teacher of the new school in the Ness Castle area. Starting the school from scratch and building the team, working together to ensure the school becomes the heart of the community, is a really exciting prospect and I can't wait to get started!"

Chair of the Education Committee, Cllr John Finlayson said: “I would like to congratulate Craig on his new role as Head Teacher for the new school. This is an exciting start for the Ness Side and Ness Castle community as they look forward to a brand-new school building and now a new Head Teacher to lead them on their learning journey. I wish him every success in his new role.”

The new school will serve the new housing developments in the area and is in the Inverness Royal Academy catchment for secondary education. At opening in August 2022, the new school will have 12 primary classrooms and nursery accommodation. The building has been designed to allow it to be extended in a phased manner to provide up to 24 classrooms to meet the future demand from housebuilding in the catchment area.
