Highland Council winter road condition report for Friday 7 January 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
Road condition reports for Friday 7 January 2022 are as follows:
Badenoch and Strathspey: Posted at 08:12. Widespread icy/frosty patches. Roads are being treated as necessary.
Nairn: Posted at 08:07. Wet roads with localised frosty/icy patches. Roads are being treated as necessary.
Caithness: Posted at 08:53. There is black ice on some routes, also white frost and some sparking roads. All routes being treated and footpaths also being treated. No issues reported.
Ross and Cromarty: Posted at 07:33. Road surface temperatures below across all routes this morning but salt holding across all the primary routes. There is a light sparkle and hoar frost on secondary routes. Higher routes are reporting a light dusting of fresh snow. All routes being treated and checked this morning, including footpaths. No overnight issues reported.
Lochaber: Posted at 08:36. Wintry showers throughout the area with some snow accumulation on higher routes. Treatment is ongoing on all primary routes this morning.
Sutherland: Posted at 08:29. There are frosty/icy stretches and a dusting of snow on higher routes. All routes have been treated including footpaths.
Skye and Raasay: Posted at 08:24. Widespread icy patches throughout. Treatment currently ongoing on primary and secondary routes as necessary.
Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh: Posted at 07:57. Sub-zero overnight road surface temperatures across the network this morning. There is a mix of between snow and ice on all routes. No reported issues overnight and treatment is ongoing.
Inverness: Posted at 10:13. Wet roads with negative road surface temperatures this morning. Caution is advised while driving. All routes and footpaths being treated.

As of 9am this morning, the following schools were closed as a result of bad weather conditions:
- Grantown Grammar School: Closed (severe road conditions)
- Kingussie High School: Closed (severe road conditions)
