There’s still time to have your say on Sandown Lands consultation
The Highland Council is reminding Nairnshire residents that there is still time to respond to the Community Empowerment consultation concerning the proposal to dispose, by sale, of Sandown Lands, Nairn. The consultation is open until 31 January 2022.
The Council is keen to hear the community’s views on the proposal and all submissions will be given full regard before a decision on whether, and how, to proceed is made.
Note that any additional information collected as part of this additional consultation will be combined with the responses already received.
What is proposed?
A sale of 38 hectares of Common Good property lying either side of the A96 at the western boundary of Nairn, commonly known as Sandown.
The allotment gardens together with a parcel of land for extension of the gardens will be excluded from the proposal.
The current value of the land is estimated to be around £6m - £7m (value at October 2020). This figure has been estimated after taking into account possible variables including the potential for increased developer contributions. Should the land be sold, then this money would be available for investment in other Common Good assets and community priorities in Nairn.
Sandown Lands are an important asset for Nairn Common Good and any decision must be based on the most complete information available. Therefore, following an initial consultation on this proposal which concluded during early 2021, the Council is undertaking a further period of consultation to ensure the opportunity to comment is given to as many members of the Nairn community as possible and to allow for the gathering of additional, detailed information.
