Highland Council winter road report for Monday 7 February 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road conditions reports for Monday 7 February 2022 are as follows:

  • Lochaber (posted 08:38): Cold with ice flows in some areas.  Frosty in places though the temperatures rising quickly this morning.  All primary routes treated with 20g salt.  No issues reported overnight.
  • Badenoch and Strathspey (posted 08:34): Icy and some snow in patches.  Treating all main routes.  No overnight issues reported.
  • Nairn (posted 08:33): Icy in patches, treated all main routes, breakdowns mean only one lorry currently available.  No overnight issues reported.
  • Lochalsh and Wester Ross (posted 08:26): Marginal road temperatures with some icy patches primary and secondary routes being treated.  No issues reported overnight.
  • Sutherland (posted 08:25): Very icy Central and East Sutherland, milder in the West.  All routes currently being treated.  No known problems.
  • Skye and Raasay (posted 08:23): Road surface temperatures marginal early morning, though rising, as cloud and rain moves in from West.  Primary routes in North Skye treated and stood down.  No issues.
  • Caithness (posted 08:02): All routes reporting black ice with frozen snow and sluch and a good sparkle in areas.  Footpaths  reporting a good sparkle with ice areas.  Treatment ongoing.  No overnight issues reported.
  • Ross and Cromarty (posted 07:53): Widespread ice across the network this moring, with secondary routes and others worst affected.  All routes being treated this morning including footpaths.
  • Inverness (posted 05:50): All roads icy.  Gritters heading off on routes.
