Highland Council winter road report for Wednesday 9 February 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road conditions reports for Wednesday 9 February 2022 are as follows:

  • Caithness (posted 09:09):  Snow cover on all routes this morning with heavier in places.  Treatment ongoing, also on footpaths.  No overnight issues reported.
  • Lochaber (posted 08:47): Action carried out as planned.  Roads wet.  Blustery showers.  No overnight problems.
  • Badenoch and Strathspey (posted 08:05): Widespread frost/ice and localised snow patches.  Roads being treated as necessary
  • Nairn (posted 07:56): Low level routes - wet.  High level routes frosty with a dusting of snow, being treated as necessary
  • Lochalsh and Wester Ross (posted 07:53): Marginal temperatures this morning with a light dusting of snow to 2cm over the highest geound.  No issues reported overnight
  • Sutherland (posted 08:29): Widespread icy patches across the area, with light snow cover on higher routes.  All routes currently being treated.  No known problems.
  • Skye and Raasay (posted 08:00): A light covering of snow on all higher routes this morning.  Routes mostly frost free apart from the A855 from Storr to Lealt with a sparkle reported to Staffin. Treatments extended across Primary and Secondary and other problematic/high routes.  Driver caution advised on untreated roads.
  • Ross and Cromarty East (posted 09:10): A mixture of rain, sleet and snow across the area.  All routes being treated.
  • Ross and Cromarty West (posted 08:30):  No overnight issues to report.
  • Inverness (posted 05:45): Low roads - wet.  Dusting of snow on high roads, all roads to be gritted this morning.

The Met Office have issued a yellow warning for snow that will take effect from 4pm this afternoon to 11am Thursday 10 February 2022.
