Highland Council winter road report for Thursday 10 February 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road conditions reports for Thursday 10 February 2022 are as follows:

  • Caithness (posted 08:07):  Snow cover on all routes.  Up to 3 inches packed snow in parts.  Footpaths light cover treatment ongoing and no overnight issues reported.
  • Lochaber (posted 08:33):  Action carried out as planned.  Wet roads and some snow showers on higher routes.  No problems overnight.
  • Badenoch and Strathspey (posted 08:15): Snow across all roads, 1 to 2" north end, and 6" south end.  Roads being treated as necessary.
  • Nairn (posted 08:16):  Ice and snow across Nairnshire.  Roads being treated as necessary.
  • Lochalsh and Wester Ross (posted 07:48): Strong winds and wintry showers across the area this morning, causing snow to blow particularly on the Bealach causing some drifting.  Coastal low level routes generally wet and very windy.  All routes being treated.  No issues reported overnight.
  • Sutherland (posted 08:29): Icy stretches with snow cover on higher routes up to 75mm in places.  All routes being treated in order of priority.  No known problems.
  • Skye and Raasay (posted 07:11): 10grm precautionary treatment to North Skye Primary routes 7 and 10.  Positive road temperatures recorded from 0615.  No travel issues to report overnight or for this morning. 
  • Ross and Cromarty (posted 09:18): Sleet and rain falling on cold roads causing difficult conditions throughout the area.  Caution advised on any untreated surfaces.
  • Inverness (posted 06:29): Low roads icy.  2" snow cover on high roads.  Starting to grit all routes and blade where required.

The Met Office yellow warning for snow remains in force until 11am this morning.  A yellow warning for wind is effective until midday.
