Highland Council winter roads report for Friday 11 February 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road conditions reports for Friday 11 February 2022 are as follows:

  • Caithness (posted 08:14): Frost ice on all routes with light frozen snow in parts.  Treating as necessary.  Footpaths, ice patches, light dusting of snow in parts, treatment ongoing.  No overnight issues reported. 
  • Lochaber (posted 08:27):  Minus road surface temperatures, icy roads with a dusting of snow.  No overnight problems.
  • Badenoch and Strathspey (posted 08:07):  Widespread frost/ice across all roads, treatment being carried out as necessary.
  • Nairn (posted 07:42):  Icy patches on high level routes.  Other roads dry.  Treatment being carried out as necessary.
  • Sutherland (posted 08:13): Widespread frost with icy patches, light dusting of snow on higher routes.  All currently being treated in order of priority.  No known issues.
  • Skye and Raasay (posted 07:58): Minus temperatures recorded across all routes this morning.  Icy stretches affecting most Skye routes,particularly Braes, West side and similarly for Elgol.  Driver caution advised on any untreated roads.  No overnight issues otherwise to report.  20grm treatments ongoing.
  • Ross and Cromarty (posted 08:49): Widespread frost and icy stretches on areas of seepage.  All routes being checked and treated.
  • Inverness (posted 06:09): Widespread grey frost on roads plus icy patches.  Gritters heading off on all routes.

The Glen Etive road in Lochaber will be closed today between 10am and 4pm to all vehicles to allow emergency road repairs to be undertaken following the report of a sink hole yesterday afternoon.
