Highland Council winter road condition report for Thursday, 24 February 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Thursday, 24 February are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey: Posted at 08:16 - Snow on all roads, from a dusting at the south end of the area to 4" in the north end. Roads being treated as necessary.

Caithness: Posted at 08:11 –  A light dusting of snow on all routes and odd icy stretches being treated as required.  No other known issues to report.

Inverness: Posted at 05:59 – Dusting of snow on low roads, 2" - 3" snow cover on high roads.  Gritters heading off on all routes.

Lochaber: Posted at 07:09 – All primary routes being currently treated.  2 to 3 inches of wet snow fell overnight on all routes, treatments ongoing.  No other road issues reported.

Nairn: Posted at 07:48 -  Snow on all roads - dusting at lower levels to a couple of inches on higher routes.  Roads being treated as necessary.

Ross and Cromarty: Posted at 06:43 - Snow and ice affecting all routes this morning.  Caution advised on any untreated surfaces.

Skye and Raasay: Posted at 08:07 -  Light coverings of snow on all A class (Primary) routes this morning.  5 centimetres of snow requiring double treatment on the Broadford Armadale road between Kinloch and Brae Ord.  Early morning 06:30am hail shower affecting all Raasay routes.  Treatment running on all Primary and Secondary routes (including Raasay) to include other problematic high routes.  Minus road temperatures currently (8am) despite positive air temperatures.  No overnight issues to report.

Sutherland: Posted at 08:49 – Ice affecting most routes this morning with up to 3 inches of snow on higher routes and ongoing heavy snow showers.  Treatment ongoing in line with policy.

Wester Ross & Lochalsh: Posted at 08:49 – Light dusting of snow on all routes.  No major issues reported.
