Comhairlichean a’ moladh luchd-buannachaidh FilmG na Gàidhealtachd

Tha Cathraichean Comataidh na Gàidhlig is Comataidh an Fhoghlaim aig Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd air moladh mòr a dhèanamh air luchd-buannachaidh farpais chliùiteach filmichean goirid Gàidhlig FilmG na bliadhna sa às a’ Ghàidhealtachd.

Thuirt Cathraiche Comataidh na Gàidhlig, an Comhairliche Calum Rothach: “Tha luchd-buannachaidh sgoinneil FilmG air a bhith againn às a’ Ghàidhealtachd am-bliadhna. Tha sinn a’ cur meal-an-naidheachd mòr air: Parker Dawes a tha na sgoilear ann an Àrd-Sgoil Àird nam Murchan; Anndra Cuimeanach à Geàrrloch; oileanaich Shabhal Mòr Ostaig san Eilean Sgitheanach – Anna Garvin agus Somhairle MacIain nam measg; agus Eòghan Stiùbhart à Inbhir Nis agus iad uile air duais chliùiteach FilmG a thogail – ‘duais G mòr meatailt’.

Thug am film ‘Am Buaile Dubh’, a rinneadh air iomall Inbhir Nis, duais Cluiche as Fheàrr dhan riochdaire is dhan neach-aithris Eòghan Stiùbhart a tha na thidsear Gàidhlig à Inbhir Nis.

Chaidh An Sgriobt as Fheàrr agus Roghainn an t-Sluaigh gu Cheryl Heggie School of Dance + Sìne na Screen, a tha stèidhichte ann an Inbhir Nis, airson  ‘Thòisich e le Sreothart!’

Councillors commend Highland FilmG winners

Highland winners of this year’s prestigious Gaelic short film competition FilmG 2022 have been commended by The Highland Council’s Chairs of Gaelic and Education.

Chair of the Gaelic Committee Cllr Calum Munro said: “We have had some fantastic FilmG winners located in Highland this year. A huge round of applause and standing ovation goes to: Parker Dawes a pupil at Ardnamurchan High School; Anndra Cuimeanach from Gairloch; the students at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on Skye including Anna Garvin and also Somhairle MacIain; and Eòghan Stiùbhart from Inverness who all scooped a coveted FilmG – ‘big metal G award’.

“FilmG is a highly creative and productive practical opportunity for people of all ages to express the Gaelic language through the media of film. Many past winners go on to work in the media industry, and for the audience it is a highly anticipated and entertaining annual event that is internationally enjoyed through live broadcast. Well done to all who entered and took part in the competition this year and thank you to the organisers for another excellent FilmG.”

Cllr John Finlayson, Chair of the Education Committee added: “Well done to all the FilmG winners and also those who were shortlisted. The talent and creativity displayed by the entries to FilmG is a huge pleasure to watch.

“FilmG provides a fantastic opportunity for the practical application of Gaelic by pupils in our schools and I would like to give my special congratulations to three schools who have demonstrated this. Well done to Ardnamurchan High School pupil Parker Dawes and his team of fellow students for their winning film ‘Spies-R-Us’ and also to twice shortlisted Staffin Primary School for their films Uilleam Uaine’ which was shortlisted for the best production prize and ‘Tearlach san Eilean’ also shortlisted for the best film for under 12 year olds. And well done to Iseabail MacRae from Portree High School for the best performance.”

The Highland winners were as follows:

Parker Dawes (14), a pupil at Ardnamurchan High School in Strontian, West Lochaber, scooped three awards - Best Young Filmmaker, Best Film Fluent Speakers and Best Production, for his slapstick spy thriller ‘Spies-R-Us’.

Best Performance went to Iseabail MacRae from Portree High School in their film ‘Cuidhteas’ about three respectable wives in the Victorian Era who plan a way to find independence from their husbands.

Anndra Cuimeanach from Gairloch secured the prize for Best Documentary (12-17) for his film ‘Thar Nan Sgòth - Beinn Eighe’ (Above the Clouds – Beinn Eighe) which was about hillwalking and scrambling as a way to get a new perspective on the world.

In the Open category a short documentary called ‘A' Mhuir’ (The Sea) about wild swimming by the students at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye, picked up two separate awards, Film Duthchais and Best Director (Anna Garvin).

Somhairle MacIain (Sorley Johnston) also a student at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig won the award for Best Student Film for his film ‘Eilean Lois’ (Lois’s Island) which follows him and his girlfriend, Lois, as they cycled the Hebridean Way in summer, while he teaches her to speak Gaelic.

A look around ‘Am Buaile Dubh’ on the outskirts of Inverness, secured the Best Performance award for the film’s producer and narrator by Eòghan Stiùbhart who is a Gaelic Teacher from Inverness.

Best Script and People’s Choice went to Inverness-based Cheryl Heggie School of Dance + Sìne na Screen for ‘Thòisich e le Sreothart!’
