Improvement and Transformation Programme update presented to Members

Members of today’s Recovery, Improvement and Transformation Board (RITB) were presented with a comprehensive report to update them on the progress of the Council’s ambitious Improvement and Transformation Programme, which includes a summary update on the activity of the Programme Management Office in support of the delivery of the Programme.

The Transformation Programme consists of nine projects and their associated workstreams and the Board were presented with a specific report on the School Transport Review, one of the workstreams associated with the Roads and Transport Transformation project.  Other projects include work to support the Highland Economy, asset rationalisation, social care, waste and climate change. Updates are provided to Strategic Committees on their respective projects.

The School Transport report provided Members with ‘a detailed review of the education transport activities of The Highland Council (THC), encompassing policy, commissioning, in-house operations, external providers, quality standards, and budget issues’.  The Board discussed the review recommendations appended to the report/contained within the report.

Councillor Alasdair Christie, Depute Leader of the Council and Chair of the Recovery, Improvement and Transformation Board said: “We are now almost a year into the Programme and the comprehensive update provide to the Board showed clearly that we are making excellent progress in managing 9 key project areas including supporting the Highland Economy, Climate Change, Waste Management and Adult Social Care. These transformational projects will not only improve and enhance the way we provide services and deal with future resource deployment but will also establish a strong platform for the Council to build upon thereby benefiting the whole of Highland”.

The Board were also provided with a demonstration from the Programme Management Office (PMO) of the ‘Transformation Hub’, a virtual resource used by Programme and Project staff to support, manage and promote projects, using existing technology.
