The West Link Project team in Inverness has agreed to facilitate a temporary closure of the new Torvean Swing Bridge this weekend to accommodate rowers taking part in an event on the Caledonian Canal.

Therefore the Torvean Swing Bridge will be raised on Saturday (5 March 2022) between 9am and 5pm, re-opened and then raised again on Sunday (6 March 2022) between 8.30am and 5.30pm.

The closures have been agreed with Inverness Rowing Club taking the following into consideration:

  • Tomnahurich Canal Bridge is available to use as an alternative and traffic can be easily diverted onto the A82 trunk road.
  • The time of year is significant as there is little to no traffic using the canal. The bridges are normally operated between April and October.
  • The event is happening at a weekend which will have less impact on commercial traffic.

It is also worth noting that the closure of this bridge for these events is a planning condition for the construction.
