Contested and uncontested wards confirmed for Highland Council Election 5 May 2022

The Notice of Poll has been published for the contest of 71 seats across 20 multi-member wards of The Highland Council.  One further ward of 3 members is confirmed as uncontested.

Of the 142 candidates confirmed, the breakdown is as follows:

Independent – 40
Other - 12
Scottish Conservative and Unionist - 21 
Scottish Green Party - 11
Scottish Labour Party -14
Scottish Liberal Democrats - 21 
Scottish National Party (SNP) - 23

The poll will take place between the hours of 7am and 10pm on Thursday 5 May 2022.

Councillors are elected using the single transferable voting system whereby electors will be asked to mark their ballot paper by ranking as many or as little candidates on the ballot in preferential order 1,2,3,4, and so on.

Please note the notice of uncontested election has also been published. 

The following candidates were validly nominated for Ward 11 - Caol and Mallaig -   as the number of candidates nominated was equal to or less than the number of councillors to be returned. This means that no poll will take place for this ward and by 11.00am on the day of election the following candidates shall be declared to be Councillors for Ward 11:

  • Andrew Baldrey – Scottish Greens - Delivering For Our Community
  • John Colin Grafton – Scottish Liberal Democrats
  • Liz Saggers – Scottish Conservative and Unionist

The results of the contested election will be announced on Friday 6 May and published on the Council’s website www.highland.gov.uk. The electronic counting of the votes will be broadcast live via the Council’s twitter feed #SLG22Result
