Members at today’s (29 August) Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee approved the deletion of a small section of the U2284 Coire Na Ciste Road, Cairngorm from the list of adopted roads.

Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd submitted a planning application (Cairngorm National Park Authority 2021/0112/DET) for the reconfiguration of the existing carpark and provision of infrastructure for overnight camper van facilities.

Highland Council’s Transport Planning team were consulted as part of the application and the Area Roads Team were approached for their view regarding the partial deletion of the adopted road, that would form the access for the reconfigured parking facility.

The proposal, which was supported by officers, will delete the section of the road that continues beyond its junction with the U3076 Ski Link Road. Having now been approved the deletion will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.

Chair of the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee, Cllr Bill Lobban declared an interest in this item which precluded him from involvement.

Vice Chair, Cllr Russell Jones, who then took over as chair said: “We are pleased to be able to approve this application, which will enhance the visitor experience at Cairngorm mountain.

“There will be a slight reduction in the area of road maintenance revenue budget, but this will be matched by the reduction in maintenance responsibility.”
