Education Scotland webinar FC Sonas case study

Education Scotland hosted a webinar event which shared the key findings from their review on community development practice through the COVID-19 pandemic.

FC Sonas were invited to attend the webinar to share a presentation about their work which had been highlighted as a case study in the Education Scotland report.

The webinar was open to practitioners, learners, volunteers, community members, Community Learning and Development Partnerships (CLD), local authorities and the third sector organisations with an interest in CLD and community development.

The Highland Council’s Gaelic Team is a lead authority in supporting and working with FC Sonas. Their support is provided through collaborative work on a Gaelic Medium (GM) Football camp held in Inverness during the October school holidays. This event built upon and enhanced the success of previous GM football camps held in Inverness and Skye.

This provided an opportunity to enhance and strengthen the young peoples’ Gaelic language skills, collaborating with their peers in a Gaelic medium environment, as well as developing football skills and abilities.

Councillor Calum Munro, Chair of Highland Council Gaelic Committee said, “The Highland Council is delighted to be working in partnership with FC Sonas, as it is important for young people to use their language skills out with the formal school environment and FC Sonas provide the knowledge and skill to offer both language and football skills as a way of engaging  communities and individuals to use Gaelic within a sporting an leisure environment.

He continued: “The Council is grateful for the assistance received from Bòrd na Gàidhlig.”
