Working together for healthy and vibrant communities

Progress has been made across our partnerships in Community Learning and Development (CLD) to help increase life chances for our most vulnerable people, to support the development of healthy and vibrant communities; and to ensure a fairer, more equitable Highland.

CLD is delivered through community-based adult and family learning, through youth work and work with community groups.  The work can be with people of all ages and is about making positive change in the lives of individuals and in their communities.  This is done through learning, personal development and active citizenship.

In Highland, the CLD plan is delivered through 9 community planning partnerships and regional delivery partners. Local partners come together to plan, deliver, and evaluate CLD provision using the strategic priorities of the plan as a framework.

Education Chair, Cllr John Finlayson added: “The creative and engaging work being delivered by Education Officers and our community planning partnerships in communities across the region is essential to making sure that the people of Highland experience a full and happy life. I would like to thank our staff, partners, and our community members for working together on the various programmes of work which have been in action since we agreed the priorities in our CLD plan. It is clear that a lot of effort and hard work has been delivered in Highland communities over the past year, progress which has been reflected in the final report we have received from Education Scotland.”

Education Scotland has reported that the Council has strengthened structures for partnership working and have acknowledged improved communication, understanding and joint working between partners.
