Highland Council winter road condition report for Wednesday 7 December 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Wednesday 7 December 2022 are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted 07:27 - Higher temperatures than forecast with damp and wet roads. Primary and Secondary routes being treated as a precaution.

Caithness

Posted 08:13 - Higher temperatures than forecast on most routes and good salt cover. Some routes treated for low temperatures and light sparkle in areas. No known overnight issues reported.

Inverness

Posted 05:56 – Roads are damp with good salt cover. No known issues reported.

Lochaber

Posted 08:23 - Low temperatures with a mixture of damp to dry roads and plenty of salt coverage.

Nairn

Posted 07:28 - Damp and dry roads throughout the area with higher temperatures than forecast. Primary and Secondary routes being treated as a precaution.

Ross and Cromarty (East)

Posted 07:45 – Temperatures are significantly higher than forecast this morning. Damp roads with high levels of salt. No known overnight issues reported.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh

Posted 09:27 - This morning's temps and conditions were higher than forecast. There are mostly wet roads, except on higher routes where there was some slush and 2-5cm snow. No known overnight issues reported, and all actioned routes have received treatment.

Skye and Raasay

Posted 08:27 - Road surface temperatures are higher than forecast. Primary & Secondary routes have been treated as a precaution.

Sutherland

Posted 08:13 – There are mainly wet roads with a light dusting on high ground, 1''- 2'' wet snow on the A836 Lairg-Tongue Road on the highest section. All routes have been treated including footpaths.

The UK Met Office has a Yellow weather warning in place today through to 12:00 tomorrow for snow & ice for much of the Highland region.

School closures

As of 09:00 this morning there are no school closures because of bad weather conditions.
