Highland Council winter road condition and school closure report for Thursday 8 December, 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. Road condition reports for Thursday 8 December, 2022 are as follows:

Ross and Cromarty East

Covering of snow affecting all routes across the operational area, Primary routes clear, with some light coverage on secondary and other routes. Treatment ongoing this morning. No overnight issues reported. 

Caithness

Damp roads with frozen snow and sleet areas and some sparkle patches all routes being treated. No overnight issues

Sutherland

Covering of snow on all routes, up to 12cm on the high ground all routes been bladed & treated including footpaths. No know overnight issues.

Skye and Lochalsh

Band of snow across central Skye (1-2 inches) with isolated deeper sections on high ground. Treatment ongoing on Primary & Secondary routes.

Lochaber

Low temperatures throughout the area. Routes mainly dry with the odd ice flow. All main routes have been treated

Nairn

Wet roads with a dusting of snow on lower routes. Snow on higher ground. All routes being treated this morning. No known overnight issues.

Inverness

Patchy dusting of snow on high roads. Low roads wet. Gritters heading out to treat all routes.

Badenoch and Strathspey

Snow throughout the area. All routes being treated. No known overnight issues.

School Closures

As of 9:42am this morning the school closures are as follows:

Gairloch High School:  Closed (bad weather)
Gairloch Primary:  Closed (bad weather)
Gairloch Primary Nursery - EM:  Closed (bad weather)
Gairloch Primary Nursery - GM:  Closed (bad weather)
Poolewe Primary:  Closed (severe road conditions)
Poolewe Primary Nursery:  Closed (severe road conditions)
Rosebank Primary Nursery:  Closed (unforeseen circumstances)
