Highland Council winter road condition report for Tuesday 13 December 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Tuesday 13 December 2022 are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted 07:29 - Negative temperatures with snow and ice throughout the area.  All routes being treated.  No overnight issues reported.

Caithness

Posted 08:53 - A mix of damp and slushy roads.  Wintry showers coming in early in some areas.  Icy patches throughout.  Treatment is ongoing.  No known overnight issues reported. 

Inverness

Posted 12:18 - Low temperatures and snow showers on all routes, caution advised.  No known issues.

Lochaber

Posted 08:32 - Very cold overnight with light sleet/snow showers this morning.  All primary routes treated and secondary route treatments ongoing.  No issues reported overnight.

Nairn

Posted 07:30 – Negative temperatures with snow and ice throughout the area.  All routes being treated with no known overnight issues.

Ross and Cromarty (East)

Posted 06:09 - Negative temperatures and a dusting of snow on most routes first thing, with more snow forecast throughout the morining.  All routes being treated.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh

Posted 09:35 - A mixed bag of black ice and snow this morning across the Ward 5 network.  All routes are getting treated.  No known current issues. .

Skye and Raasay

Posted 09:02 - Very cold overnight with fresh snowfall.  Treatments ongoing by priority.  Some routes such as Talisker are still affected by sheet ice.  No overnight problems otherwise to report. 

Sutherland

Posted 10:25 - Sheet ice around the west coast, with ice and snow up to 10" affecting inland routes. No known overnight issues.

The UK Met Office has a Yellow weather warning in place today through to 12:00 Thursday for snow & ice for much of the Highland region. 

School closures

As of 09:00 this morning there are 3 secondary schools, 19 primary schools and 16 nursery schools closed.

The school closures page on the Council’s website at: www.highland.gov.uk/schoolclosures is updated from 7am and cleared each evening by 6pm.
