Highland Council winter road condition report for Wednesday 14 December

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Wednesday 14 December 2022 are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted 07:27 - Fresh snow overnight throughout the area.  Primary and secondary routes being treated.  No overnight issues. 

Caithness

Posted 09:14 - Snow and ice affecting all routes this morning.  Treatment is on-going on all routes including footpaths.

Inverness

Posted 05:51 - Very cold temperatures this morning with frozen snow and slush on roads in places. Treating all routes and footpaths and caution is advised on roads today. No known issues to report. 

Lochaber

Posted 08:16 - Very cold overnight with icy patches on all routes.  Primary and secondary routes being treated.  No known overnight issues. 

Nairn

Posted 07:28 – Fresh snow overnight.  Primary and secondary routes being treated as priority.  No known overnight issues. 

Ross and Cromarty (East)

Posted 07:09 - Negative temperatures and a fresh dusting of snow across the area.  All routes being treated. 

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh

Posted 07:07 - A mixed bag of snow with icy patches across the road network.  All routes being treated.  No overnight issues to report.  Treatment ongoing. 

Skye and Raasay

Posted 09:21 - Snow overnight with negative road temperatures.  Primary and secondary routes and footways being treated by priority.  No overnight issues to report.

Sutherland

Posted 08:48 - All routes affected by snow this morning from 5cm to 15cm on high ground with 3ft drifts in places.  All primary and secondary routes being treated including footpaths. 

The UK Met Office has a Yellow weather warning has been extended until 12:00 Friday for snow & ice for much of the Highland region. 

School closures

As of 09:00 this morning there are 4 secondary schools, 27 primary schools and 23 nursery schools closed or partially closed.

The school closures page on the Council’s website at: www.highland.gov.uk/schoolclosures is updated from 7am and cleared each evening by 6pm.
