Highland Council winter road conditions report for Friday 23 December 2022

Maps of the Council’s gritting routes by priority and policy are available online at www.highland.gov.uk/gritting.

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Friday 23 December 2022 are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted - 07:24 - Wet and damps roads throughout the area with the odd ice patch in the north end of the area. Primary and secondary routes being treated as priority. No known overnight issues.  

Caithness

Posted - 07:54 - Negative road side temperatures on most routes, with a patchy white frost. These routes are being treated as necessary and no other known issues to report. 

Inverness

Posted - 07:39 - Roads wet, but no issues reported. 

Lochaber

Posted - 08:18 - Forecast updates changed action plans with lower road side temperatures reported. All primary routes being treated this morning. 

Nairn

Posted - 07:22 - Wet and damp roads with the odd ice patch. Primary and secondary routes being treated as priority. No known overnight issues. 

Ross and Cromarty (East)

Posted - 08:15 - Road side temperatures above zero this morning. Checks carried out on the higher routes but no issues reported.

Skye and Raasay

Posted - 09:05 - Road surface temperatures below zero with hoar frost and icy patches, generally in sheltered spots. Primary routes treated and treatment ongoing on secondary routes as required.

Sutherland

Posted - 08:28 - Damp on all roads with a sparkle on the inland routes. Patchy dusting of wet snow on the top of Struie. All routes treated accordingly. Secondary routes treated as resources permit. No known overnight issues.

As of 11:00am this morning there are no schools or nurseries closed.
