Highland Council winter road condition report for Thursday 29 December 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Thursday 29 December 2022 are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted 08:51 – Roads are wet and damp throughout the area with ice and frost patches in the North. All routes being treated as according to policy. There are no known overnight issues.

Caithness

Posted 07:56 – There are high temperatures throughout area. No action required and there are no known overnight issues.

Inverness

Posted 07:03 – Roads are wet throughout area with temperatures expected to drop. Routes being treated as according to policy. There are no known overnight issues.

Lochaber

Posted 07:11 – Roads are wet and damp throughout the area with low road surface temperatures. Higher routes being treated due to wintry showers and forecast. There are no known overnight issues.

Nairn

Posted 08:50 – Roads are wet and damp throughout the area with some frost and ice patches. All routes being treated as according to policy. There are no known overnight issues.

Ross and Cromarty (East)

Update posted 08:14 - Road temperatures are dropping quickly which is causing ice to form on untreated surfaces. Caution is advised.

Posted 06:27 – Precautionary treatment is being carried out on primary and secondary routes as temperatures are expected to drop with the daylight. There are no known issues to report.

Skye and Raasay

Posted 08:30 - Treatment has been carried out on the A850 as road is colder than forecast. There is localised sleet/slush on some higher routes. Caution is advised on untreated roads. No known overnight issues. 

Sutherland

Posted 08:59 – There are frost and wintry showers with some snow cover on high ground in the west and black ice affecting roads in southeast Sutherland. Treatment is being carried out as according to policy.

The UK Met Office has a Yellow weather warning in place from midnight through to 21:00 tomorrow (Friday 30 December 2022) for snow & ice across the Highland region.

Schools in Highland are closed for the festive period.
