Highland Council winter road condition report for Friday 30 December 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Friday 30 December 2022 are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted 09:15 – Roads are wet throughout the area with ice patches in the north end. All routes being treated as according to policy. There are no known overnight issues.

Caithness

Posted 08:00 – There are mainly rain and sleet showers with a light cover of snow from Westfield to Shebster, and up to 1 inch of snow on Drumholistan. There are no known overnight issues.

Inverness

Posted 06:46 – Roads are wet with some sleet/snow on higher routes. Routes are being treated as according to policy. There are no known overnight issues.

Lochaber

Posted 07:46 – Roads are wet with low road surface temperatures. There are no known overnight issues.

Nairn

Posted 09:16 – There is snow and sleet on roads and all routes are being treated as according to policy. There are no known overnight issues.

Ross and Cromarty (East)

Posted 06:30 – There are marginal temperatures and rain in the area. A precautionary treatment is being carried out on the Primary and Secondary network. There are no known overnight issues.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh

Posted 08:48 – Roads are wetter than forecast with snow covering on The Fain, The Bealach, The Mam and at Ledmore. All primary routes have been treated as according to policy. There are no known overnight issues.

Skye and Raasay

Posted 08:14 – Roads are wet and there are positive road surface temperatures across the area. There are no overnight issues to report.

Sutherland

Posted 08:26 - Snow and ice is affecting most inland routes with up to 6 inches of snow north on the highest routes with some drifting snow in exposed areas. Snow is clearing and treatment is ongoing in accordance with policy.

The UK Met Office has a Yellow weather warning in place today until 21:00 for snow & ice across the Highland region. A further Yellow warning is in place from 21:00 today until 11:00 tomorrow (Saturday 31 December 2022) for ice for the Highland area, and an additional Yellow warning in place for wind in the North area until 03:00.

School closures

Schools in Highland are closed for the festive period.
