Locality planning is top of Inverness Community Partnership agenda

Updates on community action plans were presented at a meeting of the Inverness Community Partnership this week (7 February 2023).

Highland Council’s Leader of Inverness and Area, Cllr Ian Brown said: “I was delighted to Chair the Inverness Community Partnership meeting as we came together for the first time in-person since the pandemic. The last meeting, held in March 2022, was online.

“Attendees were updated on the Inverness City and Area Locality Plan and its priorities.  The plan will consider the entire locality, setting out the most important issues across Inverness, while also focusing on smaller areas where there is a higher rate of people facing disadvantage. Community Planning is our best chance of achieving success to put people and communities at the centre of our planning and delivery processes.”

The focus of the meeting was about delivering updates on the Locality, Children’s and Adult Plans for Merkinch which set out priorities to improve the quality of life for the people who live and work within the community. Updates on the development of a community action plan for South Kessock and Merkinch were made by Chief Inspector Judy Hill of Police Scotland.

Discussions also took place around the first steps to be taken in the development of a locality plan for the Raigmore area with an update provided by James Merriman, Inverness District Manager, NHS Highland.  An update was also provided on the community action plan for the Hilton area by Bruce Milne, Group Commander, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.  The Partnership also aims to create Community Action Plans for the communities of Ardersier and Dalneigh.

The Inverness Community Partnership was formed following the introduction of the Community Empowerment Act 2015. Membership includes representatives from public agencies, the third sector and voluntary groups who come together to work together with the people of Inverness to focus on priorities and deliver better outcomes for the Partnership area.
