Highland winter road conditions report – Friday 17 February 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Friday 17 February 2023 are as follows:

Sutherland – (as at 09:15)
A949 at its junction with the A9 at Evelix is currently closed until a fallen tree is removed. Other roads affected by fallen branches and overhanging trees are A836 between Dornoch Bridge to Edderton and A949 at the Oakwoods near Spinningdale. Both these roads are passable but expect delays whilst crews deal with the debris.

Lochaber – (as at 08:40)
Wet roads with windy conditions

Skye and Lochalsh (as at 08:37)
Positive road surface temperatures. No issues reported overnight.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (as at 08:18) 
No winter action required. A windy morning with trees down at Marybank, Sallachy Road, Plockton and Aultbea tops.  Operatives on site. No other issues reported

Caithness (as at 08:11)
Positive temperatures so no winter treatments needed. No known overnight issues to report. Operatives are out patrolling for wind-blown trees and debris this morning.

Easter Ross (as at 07:45)
Positive temperatures so no winter action required although windblown trees are affecting roads across the area.

Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 07:25)
High temperatures with wet roads. No winter action needed. Operatives checking main routes for trees and debris. No known overnight issues.

Nairn (as at 07:27)
High temperatures throughout the area with wet roads. High winds. Operatives checking main routes for trees and debris on the road. No known overnight issues.
