Highland winter road conditions report – Monday 13 March 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Monday 13 March are as follows:

Ross and Cromarty East (as at 08:59)
Temperatures are above this morning with snow and sleety showers making for wet roads at lower ground on the primary and secondary routes. On higher ground accumulations of snow are forming making for difficult driving conditions. Treatment on all routes is currently ongoing.

Sutherland – (as at 08:09)
A lot of wet roads with up to 1” to 3" of wet snow on some of the higher routes. No known overnight issues.

Skye and Lochalsh (as at 08:07)
Road temperatures well above this morning. Sleet showers currently falling with inland snow showers. Treatment running per policy. No overnight issues to report.

Caithness (as at 07:52)
Temperatures higher than forecast. Heavy rain this morning so wet roads. No known overnight issues to report.

Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 07:25)
Heavy rain and sleet showers with the potential to turn to snow. Will monitor and action treatment as required. No known problems.

Nairn (as at 07:25)
Heavy rain. Potential to turn to snow. Will monitor and action treatment as required. No known problems.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (as at 06:58) 
Widespread sleet. Winter treatment is ongoing No overnight issues reported

Lochaber – (as at 06:47)
Across the area positive road surface temperatures with heavy rain. Cold front coming in mid- morning so snow/sleet treatment to be carried out after rain. No known issues.

Inverness – (as at 06:29)
Roads are wet. No problems
