Grant funding support helps Highland Businesses remain buoyant

During the last year, over 2000 Highland businesses have been supported to start-up and grow by Highland Council. Supported by the Council’s business development service, businesses have secured start-up and growth finance, and have accessed advisory support through the Council’s Business Gateway service.

Chair of Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Ken Gowans said: “It’s very encouraging to see over 300 businesses start-up in the Highland area with the support of grant funding and another 200 accessing our growth grants and specialist advisory services.

“The current financial crisis has put even more pressure on existing Highland businesses to compete and grow. It is therefore essential for the Highland economy that we continue to support them at this time.”

The Business Gateway service in Highland has business area managers covering a huge geographical area, from Caithness to Inverness and Skye to Sutherland. They provide one to one expert support within their local areas and offer free support and advice, helping businesses access start-up, growth and digital workshops, and are the first point of contact if businesses are interested in securing grant or loan support.
