Aig coinneamh Chomataidh na Gàidhlig an-diugh (Diciadain 31 Cèitean 2023) chaidh am Plana Gàidhlig ùraichte a chur fa chomhair nam Ball. Tha am Plana air ullachadh taobh a-staigh frèam Achd na Gàidhlig (Alba) 2005.

Chaidh innse do Chomhairlichean gun deach am Plana a neartachadh ri linn a’ cho-chomhairleachaidh phoblaich agus gun robhar fada an comain gach neach a chuir freagairt a-steach.

Tha am Plana a’ togail air is a’ daingneachadh obair leantainneach, chom-pàirteach is shoirbheachail Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd ann a bhith a’ neartachadh na Gàidhlig. Thathar a’ dèanamh seo tro iomadh dòigh, a leithid dearbh-aithne chorporra, obair ann an coimhearsnachdan ionadail, agus tro fhoghlam Gàidhlig a thathar a’ tabhann ann am prìomh sgìrean air feadh na Gàidhealtachd.

Tha am Plana cuideachd a’ mìneachadh mar a leanas a’ Chomhairle air adhart a’ togail aire agus a’ cuideachadh gus cànan, cultar is dualchas na Gàidhlig a neartachadh, adhartachadh is a leasachadh thar nan còig bliadhna a leanas ann an sgìre Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd. Tha na ceumannan seo a’ sealltainn dealas leantainneach na Comhairle agus mar a neartaicheas i cànan is cultar na Gàidhlig.

Thuirt an Comhairliche Calum Rothach, Cathraiche Chomataidh na Gàidhlig, “Tha mi fìor thoilichte gun deach gabhail gu math ri Plana Gàidhlig ùraichte Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd agus gun deach aontachadh leis a’ Chomataidh. Bu mhath leam aire a tharraing gu sònraichte do chom-pàirteachas na h-òigridh tro ‘Ghuth nan Sgoilear’ oir tha am beachdan air cleachdadh cànain agus air àm ri teachd na Gàidhlig sna coimhearsnachdan aca cho riatanach a thaobh a bhith a’ neartachadh na Gàidhlig agus a’ dèanamh cinnteach gum mair i am measg nan ginealaichean ri teachd.”

Mar ciad Cheannard na Comhairle le Gàidhlig, tha mi a’ creidsinn gu bheil follaiseachd a’ chànain riatanach, a’ gabhail a-steach spèis cho-ionann, an dà chuid san dòigh sam bi sinn a’ lìbhrigeadh nan seirbheisean againn air an taobh a-staigh agus air an taobh a-muigh, seach gu bheil seo a’ togail ìomhaigh a’ chànain agus a’ cruthachadh àite sònraichte taobh a-staigh na Gàidhealtachd, bho Dhiùranais gu Dail Chuinnidh agus bho Allt Èireann gu Àrasaig.”

Tha sinn airson dàimhean is cothroman ùra a leasachadh, a bhios a’ gabhail a-steach nan teicneòlasan didseatach as ùire, mar a tha sinn a’ gealltainn sa Phlana Ghàidhlig ùraichte againn.”

Public opinion enhances refreshed Gaelic Language Plan

A refreshed and reinvigorated Gaelic Language Plan 2023 – 28 for The Highland Council pledges to support the National Gaelic Language Plan’s overarching aims of supporting the use and learning of Gaelic.

At a meeting of the Council’s Gaelic Committee today (Wednesday 31 May 2023) the refreshed Gaelic Language Plan was presented to Councillors. The Plan has been prepared within the framework of the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005.

Thanks, were expressed for the views and opinions of people who submitted responses to Highland Council during a public consultation on its draft Gaelic Language Plan. Councillors were informed that the Plan was enhanced by the public engagement and gratitude to all those who submitted responses was expressed.

The Plan builds upon the lengthy, engaging, and successful work of Highland Council and highlights its current practice to strengthen Gaelic, such as through corporate identity, the work undertaken in local communities and Gaelic education which is offered in key areas across the Highlands.

The Plan also outlines how the Council will continue to raise awareness and help secure, promote and develop the Gaelic language, culture and heritage over the next five years in the Highland Council area. These steps demonstrate the Council’s ongoing commitment to Gaelic and how it will foster the strengthening of the language and culture.

Councillor Calum Munro Chair of the Gaelic Committee, said “I am delighted that Highland Council’s refreshed Gaelic Language Plan has been well received and has been endorsed by the Committee. I wish to particularly highlight the excellent engagement undertaken by young people through the ‘Pupil Voice’ initiative as their opinions on language usage and the future of Gaelic within their communities is crucial to strengthening and ensuring that Gaelic survives for future generations.”

He continued, “The refreshed Gaelic Language Plan also underlines the opportunity to define, engage and support our Gaelic vernacular communities within the Highlands.”

Highland Council Leader, Councillor Raymond Bremner said, “Highland Council has been, and continues to be at the forefront of Gaelic development across all sectors of its roles and responsibilities. As the first Gaelic speaking Leader of the Council I believe that the visibility of the language is crucial, including equal respect, both internally in how we deliver our services and externally, as it raises the profile and creates a sense of place within the Highlands from Durness to Dalwhinnie and from Auldearn to Arisaig.

He continued, “We have a positive and established history of engagement, and partnership working with other Gaelic organisations that help deliver sports, arts, music, and cultural activities. We want to develop new relationships and opportunities which will include and embrace innovative and cutting-edge digital technologies, pledged through our refreshed Gaelic Language Plan.”

Members have agreed to recommend the Gaelic Language Plan to the full Council that it homologates the submission of the draft Plan to Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
