The Council’s in-house bus team will be operating a shuttle minibus from Muir of Ord station to the showground on Thursday 3 August. The bus will endeavour to meet all trains arriving at Muir of Ord from 0830hrs and will continue to shuttle back and forth until late afternoon.

The service will be free of charge but there will be a collection box for MFR Cash for Kids should any passengers wish to make a donation.

Chair of the Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Cllr Ken Gowans said: “Our in-house bus team stood in at short notice last month to help the organisers of the Highland Cross, so I am delighted they are once again able to step in to offer a free shuttle service.

“The show is a highlight of the year and very much a community event so our team were very keen to assist the organiser. The free service offers people the choice to leave their cars at home and to travel to Muir of Ord by train so I am sure the drivers will be kept busy throughout the day. Once again, the value of having an inhouse service to serve the public has proved its worth.”

Members of the in-house bus team have also had a helpful insight into safety aspects of public transport. One of the Council’s Double Decker buses is currently being used to help the Driver Vehicle Standards Agency train new Inspectors.

Four members of the council’s in-house bus team have taken the opportunity to visit the DVSA yard in Inverness to understand more about the role of inspectors and how to ensure all the council’s fleet is in tip top condition for driving passengers around the Highlands.

The Highland Council is reminding anyone travelling to the Black Isle Show that temporary road traffic management arrangements will be in place on local roads so all drivers should be aware and follow instructions on all signage that will be in place. Traffic management measures include temporary 50mph, 30mph and 20mph speed limits which will be operating from 9am on Wednesday 2 August until 9pm on Friday 4 August.
